For office interns, the dress code is casual; feel free to wear jeans and sneakers. For shelter interns, comfortable clothing that can get dirty is essential, as are waterproof boots and/or shoes. Appropriate dress for shelter work varies with the shelter location and the time of year. The spring and fall are mild, the summer is hot, and the winter is very cold with extreme weather conditions. It is important to have good rain and winter gear if you are interning during months with adverse weather because you will be working outdoors.

Interns are responsible for buying and preparing their own food. For internships where housing is provided, weekly trips to the grocery store are offered for interns without vehicles. All interns are required to eat vegan while on sanctuary premises, which includes intern housing.
What is the housing like?
Interns working at our shelter are provided with on-site housing in a recreational vehicle. Two interns of the same sex will share the RV which has multiple beds, one private bedroom, a dining area, a kitchen, and a bathroom (shower and sink is available however the porta-potty must be used located outside). The RV is fully furnished and has dressers and closet space. The RV is equipped with dishes, pots and pans, gas stove/oven, a microwave, and a blender, a crock pot, a TV, a DVD player, cleaning supplies, and laundry soap.
Interns are required to share household cleaning chores and keep community areas clean for the comfort of everyone living together. Interns are required to keep clean and water/damp-free (and not damage) the woodwork, floors, counter tops, appliances or any part of the RV. At no times can thumbtacks, tape or markers be used on any part of the RV. Interns are required to advise sanctuary management immediately of any water leaks, damage or faulty equipment. At no time are hot plates or space heaters that can cause fires ever to be used in the RV. Sanctuary management will have access to RV at all times. Regretfully, we cannot accommodate companion animals. A $150 deposit will be required to cover any possible damages to the RV. If there are no damages, 100% of the deposit will be returned.
